Laptops Art Thou Raining From the Heavens? A Love Letter to Semiconductor Madness

CPUs galore, chips smaller than a fingertip, and deals that would make Danny Ocean weep. Welcome to the laptop gold rush of 2026.

Laptops art thou raining from the heavens? CPUs galore — should I beware of Ocean's 11? Because the heist these chip companies are pulling on the laws of physics deserves its own movie.

Consider this my screed, my manifesto, my love letter to those semiconductor chips getting smaller by the day, now less than the size of a fingertip, packing more power than the computer that landed us on the moon. Neil Armstrong had less computing power in the entire Apollo 11 than you've got in the laptop currently propping up your coffee cup.

The Great Laptop Flood of 2026

Every manufacturer and their cousin is dropping new models right now, which means last year's perfectly-excellent machines are getting clearanced like they committed some sort of crime. Spoiler alert: they didn't. That 2025 model still rips. It still handles everything you throw at it. It just doesn't have the fancy new number on the spec sheet.

And that, my dear deal hunters, is where we feast.

The CPU Wars Are YOUR War to Win

Intel and AMD are going at each other like two rams on a mountainside, and every headbutt means lower prices for us. The new chip drops, the old chip gets slashed, and suddenly you're getting a machine that would've cost $1,400 six months ago for under a grand.

Don't even get me started on the M-series MacBooks hitting the refurbished market. Apple's own refurbished store is basically a secret menu that nobody orders from. Same warranty, same quality, 15-20% less money. It's sitting right there. Just sitting there!

So What Should You Actually Buy?

Depends on what you're doing with it. Here's the cheat sheet:

Just need a workhorse for browsing, docs, and video calls? Anything with a current-gen i5 or Ryzen 5 will have you covered for years. Don't let anyone upsell you to an i7 for email. That's like buying a Ferrari to drive to the mailbox.

Content creation and heavy multitasking? This is where 16GB RAM becomes non-negotiable and a dedicated GPU starts making sense. Look at the clearance models from the major players — the outgoing generation is stupid good value right now.

Gaming? You already know what you want. You've been watching benchmarks on YouTube for three weeks. Just make sure you buy it through a cashback portal, you animals.

The Play

We're tracking the best laptop deals daily, and right now the market is absolutely flooded with competition. That's good for you. Manufacturers are throwing in extras, cutting prices, and basically begging for your business. Take advantage. Stack your rewards. And whatever you do, don't walk into a Best Buy without checking our prices first.

Your wallet will thank you. Or at least stop crying.
