My obsession with tech deals started in a photolab. Back when people still printed photos, I worked shifts at a drugstore and spent every spare minute reading whatever was on the magazine rack — Wired, Motortrend, Popular Science, you name it. (We also hid games inside Excel spreadsheets and alt-tabbed whenever a manager walked by, but that's a different story.) When digital cameras killed the photolab business, I had a lot more time to read and a lot more curiosity about what was coming next.
That curiosity turned into a side hustle. I started flipping deals on eBay — if something went on sale, I'd figure out if I could sell it for more. I even tried it with a couple of cars, though my win-loss ratio on motor vehicles has always been catastrophically skewed toward the loss column. But electronics? That's where it clicked. Something new is always coming out, so I figured if you buy smart in the first place, it won't sting as much when you sell it later to upgrade. I spent what felt like days negotiating on Craigslist for new gadgets, then flipped them a few months later when the next model dropped.
After years of doing this for myself, I realized the same knowledge could help everyone. That's why I built BuyGetRewards — to share what I've learned about when to buy, what to buy, and how to make sure your wallet doesn't take a beating every time Apple announces something shiny. If the next big thing drops six months from now, at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you didn't overpay for the last one.
